CLEVELAND,MS- Coach Asa Atkinson and the Delta State University men’s and women’s tennis teams have capped off a successful regular season and are now preparing for first round play in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

The Statesmen will take their 10-5 record into the Valdosta, Ga., regional where they will face conference foe North Alabama (9-6) on May 8-9. This will be the first meeting of the two schools this season. All-Gulf South Conference First Team members Pascal LaPlace, and Rafael Weigand will lead the Statesmen into their first round match up with UNA. The winner will face Valdosta State, who earned a first round bye.

The Lady Statesmen (13-3) will also face a GSC opponent in opening round play, as they will travel to West Florida to take on Harding (21-5) in their first round match on May 8-9. The Lady Statesmen defeated Harding 9-0 on April 14. The winner of that match up will take on West Florida. The DSU women have not been as fortunate against the Lady Argos this season losing two tough matches. The Lady Statesmen will be led by GSC West Player of the Year Cecile Benzaki.
