NEW YORK – Friday, two Delta State University Statesmen football players continued to rack up postseason honors, as senior linebacker
Lardester Hicks-Green (Chicago, Ill.) and junior wide receiver
Trevar Deed (Phoenix, Ariz.) were named to the Associated Press Little All-America Team.
Hicks-Green, a 6-foot-1, 235 pound middle linebacker, was named to the Second Team, as he capped off an outstanding career with 94 tackles and 15 tackles-for-loss to become the Gulf South Conference’s all-time leader in career tackles with 343, ranking 23rd all-time in NCAA Division II history. The two-time team captain and 2008 GSC and Super Region II Defensive Player of the Year also holds the school record for tackles in a game with 20 versus Valdosta State on Oct. 1, 2009.
Junior all-purpose back Trevar Deed, a 5-foot-10, 205 pound wide receiver, was named to the Third Team as an all-purpose athlete. The Phoenix, Ariz., native proved to be one of the top offensive threats in the GSC this season, rushing for 931 yards on 160 carries with 10 touchdowns, while grabbing 67 passes for 805 yards and five touchdowns.
Deed’s numbers included a 240 yard performance in a 48-7 win over West Georgia which ranks third in DSU history, and his 93.1 yards per contest on the ground placed him second in the Gulf South Conference. The speedster also ranked fifth in receptions per game and fifth in receiving yards per game in the GSC.
The AP Little All-America Team is selected and voted on by members of the Associated Press.
