Statesmen tennis drops three-of-four

CLEVELAND-The Delta State University men’s tennis team has dropped their last three matches, after claiming a victory in their second match of the season.
On March 7, the Statesmen cruised to a 9-0 victory over Christian Brothers in Cleveland, which has been the only victory of the season for the young squad.
Julien Beckensteiner, Thiago Marion, Felipe Fonseca, Guilherme Russo, and Matt Dean each picked up wins in singles play for DSU.
In their next three matches, the Statesmen did not fare as well, as they dropped each 9-0. In a match played in Cleveland, the Statesmen fell 9-0 to the University of West Alabama. In no. 1 singles play, Beckensteiner had the best chance for DSU, as he fell 7-5, 6-2. The team of Fonseca/Russo fell in a 9-7 tiebreaker in doubles play.
The Statesmen traveled to Fairfield Bay, Ark. for their next two matches, and could not find a rhythm, as they dropped a pair of matches 9-0. In the defeat to Arkansas Fort Smith, Beckensteiner again gave the Statesmen the best chance to win as he fell 7-5, 7-5 in two tiebreakers.
In the second match at Fairfield Bay, the Statesmen fell 9-0 to no. 7 Ouachita Baptist.
DSU will return to action on March 23, as they will take on Christian Brothers in a Gulf South Conference contest.
