Lady Statesmen XC finishes eighth at Rhodes College Invitational

Lady Statesmen XC finished eighth overall at Rhodes College on Saturday.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Delta State University Lady Statesmen Cross Country team competed in the annual Rhodes College Invitational Saturday, posting an eighth place finish in one of the region's top intercollegiate cross country events. 

"We ran pretty well today, despite some very sloppy conditions on the course," stated #Doug Pinkerton#, Lady Statesmen head coach.  "Our girls continue to improve and I believe we'll build off this performance next week at Union."

The Lady Statesmen tallied 188 points in their first first event since winning the DSU XC Invitational to open the season on Sept. 19. 

Senior #Kristin Williams# claimed another top 20 finish, recording a 21:24 to place 20th overall.  True freshman #Ashley Carrillo# came in 36th with a 23:17.  Senior #Dixie Griffin# also posted a top 40 finish with a 23:55 to finish 39th. 

Battling injuries, senior #Amanda Corneilison# claimed a 44th place finish with a 24:12, while senior #Brittany Eikner# rounded out the scoring for the Lady Statesmen with a 24:45 to finish 49th.

Freshmen #Cate Rowe# (25:13) and #Elizabeth Fike# (25:33) finished 51st and 52nd respectively, while #Hend Alboshaba# finished 54th with a 26:55.  

The Rhodes College Invitational featured 15 teams and 86 individual runners, including talent from the NCAA Division I, Division II and NAIA levels.  Complete team scores are listed below. 

The Lady Statesmen return to action next Saturday at Union University in Jackson, Tenn., for the Union Classic.
