CLEVELAND –
The Delta State Statesmen (15-4, 6-1 GSC) look to add to their two-game winning streak as they open the second round of West Division play when they host Ouachita Baptist (5-15, 1-6 GSC) on Thursday, Feb. 4 for an 8 p.m. tipoff at Sillers Coliseum.

The Statesmen, who are ranked No. 7 in the South Region of the NCAA Division II, claimed a come-from-behind 76-72 win at Henderson State on Saturday after defeating Harding 96-80 at home last Thursday.

Chad Akins, a 6-foot senior point guard from Madison, Miss., was named the GSC West Player of the Week after averaging 16.5 points and 9.0 assists per contest in last week’s Delta State triumphs. Akins scored 13 points and handed out 12 assists against Harding, and then led the Statesmen with 20 points at Henderson State.

The Statesmen are aiming for a season sweep of OBU, having defeated the Tigers 67-62 in Arkadelphia, Ark. on Jan. 9. Coming into this week’s game, Delta State has compiled a lifetime 28-10 record against the Tigers.

The men’s game will be broadcast live on Statesmen Sports Network immediately following the women’s contest between DSU and OBU. Jimmy Smith and J.T. Webb will have the call.
