CLEVELAND –
Veronica Walker added to her plethora of postseason 2009-2010 awards and honors as she was named a Second Team All-American by the Women's Division II Bulletin on Monday.
Walker (Indianola, Miss./Gentry HS) averaged 20.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per contest for the Lady Statesmen this season. She led the Gulf South Conference in four statistical categories – scoring, rebounding, blocked shots per game (1.29) and field goal percentage (.650). She was the only player from the South Region named to either the First or Second Team by the Division II Bulletin.
This is the second All-America honor that Walker has received, as she was named a DakTronics First Team All-American last week. Walker's dominance throughout the season also earned her the GSC West Division Player of the Year award.
In addition to leading the GSC, Walker was the national Division II leader in field goal percentage. She also ranked in the top 11 in scoring and blocked shots per game.
Bug Cooper (Indianola, Miss./Gentry HS) was also recognized by the Division II Bulletin, as she given Honorable Mention. Cooper led the NCAA with 8.5 assists per game. For the year, she totaled 265 assists and broke the GSC record for career assists earlier this season.
Cooper averaged 10.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest and was an All-GSC West honoree. Last week, she was named a DakTronics Third Team All-American.
Together, Walker and Cooper helped lead the Lady Statesmen to the NCAA South Region tournament championship game – making DSU among the final 16 teams in the tournament.
