CLEVELAND - Delta State University head women's basketball coach Sandra Rushing announced the signing of Jessica Brown, a 6-foot-1 center, to a National Letter of Intent on Thursday, May 13. Brown is transferring to DSU from Arkansas State and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
"Jessica has a powerful presence under the basket, which is something we really needed last season," Rushing stated. "She has great hands and the ability to put the ball in the basket, but she's also a solid post defender."
Brown played in three games last season at ASU for coach Brian Boyer. She averaged 1.3 points and 0.3 rebounds as a true freshman on a team with experienced front court performers.
The Memphis, Tenn., native was a four-year starter at Booker T. Washington High School, where she scored over 1,600 career points and pulled down 1,000 career rebounds. Named one of the Top 100 forwards in the nation as a senior by ESPN, Brown was a 2009 McDonald's All-American nominee.
She also earned All-District and All-Region as a sophomore, junior and senior - leading Booker T. Washington to three league titles, four district championships, two city championships, one regional title and one Tennessee sectional crown.
