CLEVELAND -
Delta State University Lady Statesmen basketball head coach Sandra Rushing continues to grab the top talent across the state, announcing the signing of former Ridgeland High School star Amber Powe to a National Letter of Intent on Monday.

"Amber is an athletic and gifted athlete," Rushing stated.  "She is the type of student-athlete that can put the ball in the basket, but she can also keep her opponent from scoring and that's what sets her apart.  She will be a great fit for the Lady Statesmen."

Powe comes to Delta State from the College of Central Florida, where she played guard for the Patriots.  During her CCF career, the Ridgeland native was named to the All-Mid Florida Conference Team after averaging 9.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game.

She was also a standout off the court, garnering Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll and the 2009-2010 Mid Florida Conference Scholar-Athlete Award.

Prior to signing with College of Central Florida, Powe was a standout guard at Ridgeland High School in Ridgeland, Miss.  Powe was a four-year letter winner for the Titans, where she never missed a game in her four-year career.

During her career at RHS, Powe averaged 14.4 points, 4.0 steals, 3.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game.  As a senior, Powe was named to The Clarion Ledger's All-Metro Team and Top 40 Seniors list.  She was also voted Most Athletic and a Senior Beauty in 2008.

She is no stranger to championships, helping guide RHS to two Mississippi High School Athletic Association state titles in soccer and one each in volleyball and track.
