CLEVELAND - One week after wrapping up the first scrimmage of fall camp, the No. 24 Statesmen of Delta State University are gearing up for their second scrimmage and potentially most important on Saturday, Aug. 21 at Parker Field-McCool Stadium. The event will kickoff at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
"As we get closer to the season opener at Jackson State, this Saturday's scrimmage will go a long way in helping us set the regular season depth chart," stated Ron Roberts, DSU head coach.
The Statesmen have been in their regular season practice schedule this week since Delta State began classes on Monday. The five regular practice sessions have been very competitive due to several spots on the depth chart still up for grabs.
"We have depth at some key positions and guys are still vying for playing time," Roberts added. "I hope to see the same level of competition we've had this week on Saturday."
The Statesmen open the season Saturday, Sept. 4 at Jackson State University. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. at Mississippi Veterans' Memorial Stadium in Jackson. The game will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Network starting at 3 p.m.
