Robert L. Crawford Center

Opened in time for the conclusion of the 2007 season, the Robert L. Crawford Center is the latest addition to the already famous, Dave “Boo” Ferriss Field complex.

The Robert L. Crawford Center is the main entrance and exit point for all Statesmen baseball games at Ferriss Field. The facility features the “Dave 'Boo' Ferriss Museum,” expanded rest room facilities, an umpire’s locker room, concession areas and a merchandising stand.

The Crawford Center is the second building to open in the last three years for the Statesmen baseball program. In June of 2005, the J.A. “Bud” Thigpen, Jr. Baseball Annex was completed. The Crawford Center, Thigpen Annex and Dave “Boo” Ferriss Field combine to give the Statesmen the best facilities in all of NCAA Division II.

The facility was made possible by the generous donation of the John Crawford Family. John Crawford was a two-time All-American catcher for coach Ferriss at Delta State from 1977-78. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers and spent a few years in their organization.

The facility is named in honor of his father, Robert L. Crawford. Mr. Crawford was a successful businessman and citizen of Houston. His wife now resides in Saltillo and still stays in contact with coach Ferriss.

John Crawford is a successfull businessman in Starkville. His wife, Beth, is also a graduate of Delta State. They have three daughters.

"The Crawfords have been tremendous supporters of our program for years," said coach Ferriss. "They have supported us like few others and I am excited this facility bears their name."

The “Ferriss Museum” features memorabiliam from the life of DSU legend Dave “Boo” Ferriss, a Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer.
