Jeff Kent

Graduate Assistant
First Season

Jeff Kent is in his first season as a graduate assistant on Doug Pinkerton's staff. Born in Gainesville, Fla., Kent was a standout performer for three years at the University of Iowa.

Kent received his B.A. in Health and Sport Studies in June 2007. The speedster ran track and cross country at Iowa for three years after transferring from Ball State University following his freshman year.

He is currently pursuing a Master's of Education in Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

2007 – Indoor – placed 10th in the 5,000 meters (14:37.17) at Big 10 Championships…ran collegiate-best 3,000 meters (8:24.04) at Meyo Invite…ran collegiate-best 5,000 meters (14:18.86) at The Husky Classic in Seattle, WA, which ranks 5th on Iowa’s all-time bests list…Outdoor – ran collegiate-best 5,000 meters (14:21.05) at Stanford Invite, which ranks 8th on Iowa’s all-time bests list

2006 -- Indoor - ran collegiate-best 3,000 meters (8:28.25) at Meyo Invite... placed 17th in 5,000 meters (14:49.32) at Big Ten Championships... Outdoor - placed 15th in 10,000 meters with a collegiate-best 30:34.58 at Big Ten Championships... placed 17th in 5,000 meters (14:54.85) at Drake Relays... ran collegiate bests in 1,500 meters (3:59.48) at Tom Botts Invite and 5,000 meters (14:26.29) at Stanford Invite... letterwinner...Cross Country - team co-captain... ran season-best 8,000 meter (24:39) for 72nd place at NCAA Pre-Nationals and 10,000 meters (31:50) for 28th place at NCAA Midwest Regional... placed 33rd (25:29) at Big Ten Championships and 174th (33:23) at NCAA Championships...team finished 28th at the NCAA Championships… first Hawkeye to cross finish line at Roy Griak Invite (35th-25:37)... letterwinner.

2005 -- Indoor - placed 15th in 3,000 meters (8:31.32) at Big Ten Championships... ran collegiate-best mile (4:20.34) at Carle/Health Alliance Classic... ran season-best 5,000 meters (14:33.24) at Last Chance Meet, which ranks eighth on Iowa's all-time bests list... Outdoor - placed 19th in 5,000 meters (14:28.70) at Stanford Invite... letterwinner... Cross Country - placed 22nd (25:10) at Big Ten Championships and 26th (31:52) at NCAA regional... led team at Murray Keatinge Invite with a collegiate-best 24:28, which ranks 10th in school history... also ran collegiate-best 18:27 6,000 meters at Hawkeye Invite... placed 36th (24:30) at Pre-Nationals and 38th (25:06) at Griak Invite... ran season-best 10,000 meters (31:51) at NCAA Championships...team finished 19th at the NCAA Championships… letterwinner.

2004 -- Cross Country - competed in all eight races... placed 35th at Big Ten Championships, (25:10)... placed 38th at NCAA regional (31:34.89) and 144th at NCAA meet (33:27)...team finished 13th at the NCAA Championships… letterwinner.

2003 -- Cross Country - competed in all seven meets for Ball State... best times were 15:25 for 5,000 meters and 26:20 for 8,000 meters…letterwinner

High School – track 2nd team All-American in two miles (9:31) at Nike Indoor Championships senior year... won conference, sectional and regional titles senior year...individual 4th at state cross country meet senior year… cross country team MVP senior year...team won state cross country championship in 2000… coach was Mike Prow.
