
Brian Hein enters his third season as head swimming and diving coach at Delta State University. In just two years time, Hein has established himself as one of the top young collegiate swim coaches in the country and the Lincoln, Neb., native has done so by recruiting and coaching some of the top athletes in NCAA Division II.
In just two seasons, his teams have finished in the Top-25 in the country, as well as placing in the top three each year at the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships.
Under his guidance, numerous swimmers have been named an NCAA All-American, All-NSISC, Academic All-American and Team Academic All-American. In 2006, he was recognized for his coaching efforts by being named the NSISC Women’s Coach of the Year.
“It’s a great honor to be voted by your peers as the coach of the year,” Hein said after the championships were concluded. “Once again, we proved that we could compete with the best in the country”.
Hein is in his eleventh overall season on the Delta State University Swimming & Diving Staff. Before taking his current full-time position, Hein served eight seasons as an assistant to former head coach Ronnie Mayers.
A former Division II All-American at Ashland University and a conference finalist in the 100-Backstroke for the University of Nebraska, Hein received the Penn-Ohio Conference Male Swimmer of the Year award in 1995.
Hein also excelled in the classroom at Ashland University, earning All-Academic honors in 1997.
Hein also starred on the prep level while attending Lincoln Southeast, winning individual state championships in the 200-Individual Medley and the 100-Freestyle in1994. His senior campaign concluded by going undefeated in every swimming event he competed in.
He earned his B.S. degree in Elementary Education in 1999 and his master’s of Education from Delta State in 2000 year.
The Lincoln, Neb., native is married to the former Sarah Clements of Narrows, Va. The couple has two children, Nora Anne and Alexandra.
