Petya Petrova joins the Delta State Swimming and Diving coaching staff after a solid swimming career as a Lady Statesmen.
She qualified for the NCAA National Championships and was name as an All-American and All-Gulf South Conference swimmer in multiple events. She holds records in both the 200 and 400-meter individual medley in the NSISC, and holds Delta State pool records in the 200-meter backstroke, 200-meter freestyle, and the 400-meter individual medley. In 2003, Petrova finished second at the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter individual medley.
Petrova also has experience as an international swimmer. The Bulgarian native swam in the Olympic trials in 2004, finished fifteenth in the 400-meter individual medley at the European Championships in Spain in 2004, and holds the Bulgarian National record for the 50-meter butterfly and the 100-meter individual medley. In 2005, she earned Most Valuable Swimmer, and in 2006, she was awarded the prestigious Lady Statesmen award.
Petrova graduated from Delta State in 2006 with a Bachelors’ degree in Business. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in Business Administration. She has coached young children with the Delta Aquatics Club, and has coach high school students in Bulgaria.
Petrova is the daughter of Veska and Gancho Petrovi, and has one sister Diana Petrova.
