Josh Bright helped bring about the transformation of the Statesmen football program during his four-year career at Delta State.  Prior to Bright's arrival at DSU, the Statesmen had never claimed a Gulf South Conference title and the program rarely competed at the highest levels of league or NCAA play.  That all changed for the Statesmen and the Batesville, Miss., native in 2000, as Bright led the Statesmen to the school's first NCAA Division II National Championship on the gridiron.  Since 2000, DSU has captured five league titles and competed in NCAA postseason play eight times, including an appearance in the 2010 title game and 2011 semifinals.

Bright built his legacy at DSU on and off the field.  A two-time CoSIDA Academic All-South Region pick, Bright was named the 2000 GSC Offensive Player of the Year and received the CSPIRE Charles Conerly Trophy, presented annually to Mississippi's top collegiate football player.  The two-time All-GSC selection passed for 4,027 yards in the Statesman option offense while accounting for 41 career rushing touchdowns.  During DSU's magical 2000 campaign, Bright rushed for 1,495 yards and 25 touchdowns en route to the national title.

Bright concluded his career in 2001 after starting at quarterback for three seasons.  He was named Mississippi Amateur Athlete of the Year in 2001.
