Between 2001-04, Joy Long enjoyed one of Lady Statesmen Softball's most decorated careers. Long's name is splattered all over the Delta State record book, where she holds several top-ten rankings in career and season hitting categories. She currently ranks sixth in career hits (222), fifth in RBIs (135), and sixth in games played (239). Long finished her career hitting .342, ranking ninth in batting average.
Long's 35 doubles are eighth on the career list. In 2003, Long turned in a remarkable season, batting .403 and driving in 42 runs for former head coach David Kuhn. As a sophomore in 2002, Long helped lead the Lady Statesmen to the program's first ever NCAA Tournament appearance at the NCAA South Regional in Miami Shores, Florida.
Long is a four-time All-Gulf South Conference selection and a three-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-South Region pick at catcher. Not only did Long deliver at the plate, she also delivered behind it, as the pitchers under Long's direction produced record setting performances, including Nicki Genre's NCAA-leading 35 wins in 2002 and Duana Meseyton's 21 victories in 2003.
