DESTIN,Fla.-The Delta State University golf team shaved six strokes from their first round total to finish in a tie for 10th place at the Indian Bayou Classic in Destin, Fla., hosted by the University of North Alabama.
The host Lions took the title with the wire-to-wire win. UNA held off Gulf South Conference rival Valdosta State as they shot a two day total of 572, while the Blazers finished 10 strokes off the pace with a 582.
The Statesmen finished with a two day total of 614. DSU bounced back from an opening round total of 310, and shot a team total of 304.
Chase Smith led the way for the Statesmen in the second round as he shot a +2 74. The junior from Vicksburg finished with a two day total of +6 150.
Casey Patterson finished with a +9 153, and
Austin Smithers was one stroke behind with a +10 154.
Jordan Breaux (+ 13, 157) and
Seth McBrayer rounded out the scoring for the Statesmen with a two score of +21 165.
Collin McCrary finished with a +19 163 as an individual player.
Brett Munson, of North Alabama, who was also the individual winner of the Foreman Classic in Cleveland shot a -7 under par 65 to claim medalist honors.
