Birmingham, Ala. - Tyler Sullivan
and Trenton Warren
pick up Gulf South Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors after the Statesmen upset the No. 14 Tarleton State University Texans 38-36 inside Parker Field-McCool Stadium this past Saturday.
A native of Louisville, Miss., Sullivan made his first career-start for the Green-and-White and showed why he deserved to get the nod as the signal-caller. The redshirt-freshman completed 33 of his 49 pass attempts for 422 yards and four touchdowns, all of which are records for freshmen and first-time starters.
Warren, a senior from Bartow, Texas, tallied 12 total tackles in the upset victory with six solo stops and broke up three TSU passes. Two of the passes the talented cornerback broke up occurred when the Statesmen defense was backed up to its own goal line and prevented the Tarleton offense from reaching the endzone. Warren also had one interception which was returned for 11 yards.
