NCAA Quarterfinal to be telecast by CSS/Charter Sports

CLEVELAND – For the second time in three years, an NCAA Division II Football playoff game between Delta State University and the University of North Alabama will be broadcast regionally on Cox Sports Southeast and Charter Cable Sports, as the fourth-ranked Statesmen (10-1) host the fifth-ranked Lions (11-1) Saturday, Nov. 29, at Parker Field-McCool Stadium. Kickoff has been moved to 11 a.m. to accommodate the broadcast.

“We're excited the NCAA, CSS, and Charter Sports wants to feature one of the region's top rivalries this Saturday,” said Jeremy McClain, Director of Athletics. “The game fit perfectly into their morning slot on Saturday and both programs are excited about the coverage this weekend.”

The game marks the third-straight postseason meeting and the sixth in three years between the Gulf South Conference rivals. In the 2006 playoffs, the Statesmen defeated North Alabama, 27-10, for the regional title in Florence, Ala., at Braly Municipal Stadium, advancing to the NCAA semifinals for the first time since 2000. In 2007, the Lions ended Delta State's season on a last second touchdown pass, 20-17, in the second round of the playoffs, once again at Braly Municipal Stadium.

This year, the playoff game will be played in the friendly confines of Parker Field-McCool Stadium, where the Statesmen defeated then-No. 2 ranked North Alabama, 34-28, on Oct. 16. The game will also hold historical significance, as DSU and UNA meet on the gridiron for the 50th time in series history.

“We're excited about the opportunity to face North Alabama again in the playoffs. Our guys have had a great week of practice and having the opportunity to host the Lions only makes the focus that much greater for our team,” said Ron Roberts, Delta State head coach.

Announcers for Saturday's game have not been selected at this time. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. and tickets are on sale now. General Admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students with valid ID. Adult general admission tickets are also available online at www.GoStatesmen.com.
