Lady Statesmen softball announces six early signees

CLEVELAND – Head softball coach Casey Bourgoyne-Charles announced the signing of six student-athletes Mon. November 28 to wrap up the early November signing period.

Madison Spangler, Kaitlin Moore, Kassidy Tally, Mariah Alvarez, Memrie Corley and Shelby Bishop each signed letters of intent to join the Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball team for the 2013 season.

“We are pleased that we were able to sign six quality student-athletes to become a part of the Delta State University family,” said Charles. “All six of these players will bring a special dynamic to this team and this university,” Charles added.

Spangler is a four year letterman at Walker High School (La.) where she has earned All-District, All-Parish and All-Metro honors during her career, in which she has spent time as an infielder and pitcher.

Moore is an All-State performer at Desoto Central (Miss.) High School where she has spent time at first base and outfield. The Southaven, Miss., native also holds career records for home runs and batting average

Tally is an All-District outfielder at Raleigh (Miss.) High School. Tally is an all-around player that has earned both offensive and defensive awards.

Alvarez has started three seasons in center field at Saginaw Valley (Texas) High School, where she is an All-District player. Alvarez has helped guide the Trojans to the 2009 District Championship.

Bishop was named 4A All-State at Newton County (Miss) High School following her sophomore season. The third baseman has also helped guide NCHS to three MHSAA State Championships. The Hickory native also finished her junior season as NCHS's leader in batting average, best offense RBI's.


Carroll Academy (Miss.) product Memrie Corley completes the Lady Statesmen signing class. Corley has played multiple positions for CA during her six year career, in which she has been named All-District and All-State, while helping guide her team to its first District Championship.
