Langston Named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
For the second week in the row, Delta State Baseball has been recognized by the Gulf South Conference with the Player of the Week.  Brent Langston picks up his first career player of the week honor for his efforts leading the Statesmen to a road series victory at No. 9 Valdosta State University.

Langston, a senior first basemen from Southaven, Miss., 7-for-13 in the weekend series.  He collected multiple hits in all three games including connecting for his first home run of the season in the series finale.  Langston spearheaded an offensive attack that outscored the home team 27-10 over 24 innings of action.

"Langston had a great weekend series against a very good Valdosta State club and was a big factor in our series victory," commented head coach Mike Kinnison.  "Brent was able to provide some timely hits with runners on base which was something we were looking to get better at."

Langston leads the team in batting average (.382), while also boasting a .500 slugging percentage and .444 on base percentage.  For the season so far, he has tallied 13 hits while scoring six runs and totaling 17 total bases.

Delta State (7-5, 6-3 GSC) has four home games this week.  Harding visits Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm before Christian Brothers travels for a GSC weekend series at Ferriss Field with a pair of games on Saturday and one more Sunday afternoon.
