CLEVELAND – Delta State University head women's basketball coach Sandra Rushing announced the signing of Hernando High School star Aubree Ray on Wednesday. Ray's signing is the first for the Lady Statesmen this period.
“We're very excited about the addition of Aubree Ray to the Lady Statesmen program,” Rushing stated. “Aubree is a post with tremendous ability to score around the basket and defend bigger players in the paint. That's what really sold me on her ability to be a great player here at Delta State.”
The 6-foot-1 power forward scored over 1,240 points in her four year career at Hernando High School for head coach Lana O'Bryant. During her career, the three sport star received numerous awards and honors, including MHSAA Class 5A All-Region 2 District honors, The Commercial Appeal Player of the Week, BankPlus Player of the Week and Team MVP honors.
In 2010, Ray, who averaged 17.6 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per game, was named Best Offensive Player, Team Captain and Most Valuable Player for HHS basketball.
A well-rounded student-athlete, Ray also competed for Hernando in volleyball, where she served as Team Captain, and track. Ray was named to the All-Conference teams in both sports during her career, while receiving Most Athletic honors by a vote of her classmates.
Ray is a four year honor roll recipient and member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She was also voted Junior and Senior Class Favorite and was a member of the HHS Homecoming Court as a freshman, sophomore and junior.
Aubree is the daughter of Charles and Rebecca Ray. Her sister, Amber, is a student at Delta State and was selected “Miss DSU” this year.
