Lady Statesmen Hoops inks Coffeeville's Suzette Suggs

Suzzette Suggs
CLEVELAND -
Delta State University head coach Sandra Rushing tapped into the Lady Statesmen pipeline this week to sign Coffeeville High School's Suzzette Suggs to a National Letter of Intent, joining Hernando's Aubree Ray as the second player to sign with the green-and-white during the current signing period.  Suggs played for former Lady Statesman Bernadette Sayles, who played for coach Lloyd Clark and Sandra Rushing during her four year career at DSU.

"Suzette is a tremendous athlete with great speed," Rushing stated.  "She has good size, but her athleticism really stands out.  She has played three sports at Coffeeville and really performed well in the classroom.  I think she's going to be an excellent fit for our program."

The 5-foot-11 forward's exploits in sports have been wide ranging having ran track and field, starred on the softball diamond and thrilled fans in the gym for the past five seasons at CHS.  Suggs began playing varsity athletics as an eighth grader and hasn't looked back since.

As a senior on the hardwood, Suggs averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds per game.  She has garnered several team and district awards, including Best Offensive Player, Most Improved and Best All Around.

On the track, Suggs abilities were near limitless, as the five-year letter-winner finished second twice at the Mississippi High School State Championship Meet in 2x400 relay and 300 hurdles.  She is also a four-time team MVP.

On the diamond, Suggs helped CHS advance all the way to the MHSAA North Half in her junior and senior seasons.
