COBY'S CORNER: CBS College Sports Network Comes to town for bout with Wonder Boys

CLEVELAND- Delta State will get a chance to show the nation what Statesmen football is all about as CBS College Sports Network is going to broadcast Thursday night's matchup against Arkansas Tech kicking off at 7:06pm at Parker Field-McCool Stadium. Coming off a disappointing loss in the opener to Jackson State, the Statesmen will look to get their first win of the season against the Wonder Boys out of Russellville, Arkansas with a much broader audience watching.

The Statesmen are anxious to get back on the field after playing a game only five days ago to erase the memories of the opening loss. The contest against Arkansas Tech should prove to be an exciting bout with the Wonder Boys being a familiar Gulf South Conference foe and also due to the fact that it will be broadcast to a new, expansive audience on CBS College Sports Network. This is not the first appearance on national TV for the Statesmen, the team was featured on ESPN 2 in a Division II National Semifinal game against Grand Valley State in 2006. Thursday's game will be the first of four TV games for Delta State with this being the only national broadcast. This will give not only the football team the opportunity to shine but will also allow Delta State as a university to put its best foot forward.

As far as the game is concerned, the product on the field should be nothing less than electrifying as the Statesmen hold a 10-7 advantage in all time matchups against the Wonder Boys and look to avenge last season's loss. Arkansas Tech opened up last Thursday with a 34-19 win over the Lambuth University Eagles and have momentum. The Statesmen will look to stop that momentum and even out their win-loss record. The offense will look to repeat the explosiveness they displayed during Saturday's game in which they racked up 466 total yards. Starting quarterback Micah Davis will also look to continue his success through the air after throwing for 371 yards on 40 attempts against Jackson State.

The Statesmen are ready for what looks to be an exciting matchup against the Wonder Boys under the lights on Thursday night in the Delta. The game will be available through satellite providers on CBS College Sports Network and as always on the Statesmen Sports Network with the Shelter Insurance Statesmen Locker Room Report beginning at 6:00pm and of course streaming online at GoStatesmen.com. Jimmy Smith will be providing the play-by-play with Richard Webster on color commentary and sideline analysis from J.T. Webb.
