Stacey Hagenson, a sophomore runner for the Lady Statesmen Cross Country team, captured her second straight GoStatesmen.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week award after leading Delta State to a second place finish at the Mississippi College/Watson Ford Invitational on Friday in Clinton, Miss.
Competing against 18 teams and over 100 runners, the Delta State University Lady Statesmen Cross Country team took second place overall Friday, Oct. 7 at the Mississippi College/Watson Ford Invitational (6K). The MC/Watson Ford, hosted by MC at Choctaw Trails, is one of the largest one-day races in the country.
The Lady Statesmen narrowly missed the win, falling two points shy of the team title behind the Argonauts of the University of West Florida 38 to 40. UWF finished in 2:02:21.46 while DSU posted a 2:02:37.47 team time. Complete team results are available by clicking on the link above.
While the results separated the teams by NCAA Division I and Non-Division I teams, the Argonauts and Lady Statesmen finished No. 1 and No. 2 overall in a meet dominated by non-Division I teams. Alcorn State, Mississippi Valley State and Jackson State rounded out the top five teams.
The Lady Statesmen were led once again by All-American candidate and 2010 All-GSC and Freshman Runner of the Year Stacey Hagenson. The Poplarville, Miss., native finished third overall and second among non-Division I teams with a 23:41.75, the sixth fastest 6K time in Lady Statesmen history.
Hagenson and the Lady Statesmen will continue training for the upcoming Gulf South Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 22 in Hoover, Ala.
