ATHLETICS MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Delta State University’s Department of Athletics is to advance the role of the University in providing the total educational experience for its students. The Athletics department will pursue excellence by producing competitive and entertaining athletic programs with outstanding student-athletes and quality coaches and staff.

ATHLETICS PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Gulf South Conference, Delta State University is compliant with the rules and regulations established by these organizations. The Athletic Department encourages sportsmanship and ethical conduct by all involved parties including student-athletes, coaches, and fans. Fair and equitable opportunities for and treatment of student-athletes regardless of gender, race, or sexual orientation are key commitments of all programs. Specifically, the activities of the department are to enhance the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes.  

Delta State University supports the NCAA Division II Philosophy which is based on the belief "that a well-conducted intercollegiate athletics program, based on sound educational principles and practices, is a proper part of the educational mission of a university or college and that the educational well-being and academic success of the participating student-athlete is of primary concern." Additionally, the objectives of the Athletics Department are compatible with the overall mission of the University.


ATHLETICS COMPLIANCE STATEMENT
Delta State Athletics is committed to excellence in all areas.  This categorically includes complying with the rules and regulations of Delta State University, the Gulf South Conference and the National Collegiate Athletics Association.  The institution is responsible for monitoring the actions of prospective student-athletes, enrolled student-athletes, coaches, university faculty/staff, and representatives of athletics interest (e.g. boosters, alumni and fans), and each of these groups is responsible for acting in the best interest of the athletics programs to ensure a culture of the highest integrity.
