ATHLETIC TRAINING DEPARTMENT GOALS
  - Respect the dignity of each individual student-athlete and recognize differences in gender, race, and cultural background.
  - Maintain the confidentiality of both written and verbal information obtained from the student-athlete.
  - Be cognizant of the "TOTAL" athlete, including his/her emotional, mental, and physical needs.
  - Thoroughly and competently evaluate injured student-athlete and refer the student-athlete to a physician when deemed essential and necessary.
  - Encourage an atmosphere of mutual cooperation, respect, and support with the trainers, physicians, coaching staff, and athletic/university administration.
TRAINING ROOM SERVICES
Services in the athletic training room include state-of-the-art modalities such as ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, and laser as well as other treatment methods to alleviate pain and swelling, increase strength and flexibility, and decrease the risk of re-injury in the athletes. The facility also offers a hydrotherapy room, treatment tables, taping tables, two state-of-the-art whirlpools, and a rehabilitation area to make sure student-athletes receive the best medical care possible.Â
Treatment takes place in the 2,500-square-foot primary sports medicine center at Chadwick-Dickson Fieldhouse, with satellite sports medicine locations at Walter Sillers Coliseum and the Delta State Aquatics Center. A member of the athletic training staff is available at every practice and competition for the DSU teams throughout their respective seasons.
VISITING TEAMS
Please notify the Head Athletic Trainer if your team will be traveling without a certified athletic trainer so we can better accommodate your team's needs. If you need to make any special arrangements for treatments, please send a written request with your student-athletes. Various modalities can be made available upon request. Please send all necessary medical supplies (tape, etc.) with your teams, and please make emergency information on all of your athletes available in the event it is needed.
