Vlad Zinca, a freshman on the Delta State University Statesmen Swimming & Diving team, garners this week's GoStatesmen.com Male Student-Athlete of the Week Award after representing the Statesmen with a fourth place finish in the 200-Butterfly at the 2012 National Championships in Mansfield, Texas this past weekend.
Zinca, a native of Pitesti, Romania, powered his way to a second place seed in the preliminaries of the 200-Butterfly with a lifetime best and Delta State record time of 1:47.42. In the finals, Zinca went even faster, swimming a 1:47.20 to the fourth place finish.
Zinca also won the B-Final of the 100-Butterfly event with a 48.58, another lifetime best and Delta State record. He earned 23 points in four events over four days. Zinca also earned All-American honors for his performance at the National Championships.
