Kelsey Shumate, a freshman runner on the Lady Statesmen Cross Country team, has been named the GoStatesmen.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Monday, Oct. 1.  Tuesday's honor is the first in Shumate's career.  

The Clinton, Miss., native turned in a career performance last Saturday, recording a personal best 5K time of 20:54,  earning 49th place at the Rhodes College Collegiate Classic in Memphis, Tenn.  Shumate's time bested her previous top time by almost 19 seconds.  

Shumate and the Lady Statesmen return to action this Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Disney World XC Classic in Orlando, Fla.
