Dan Deblaere, a junior midfielder for the Statesmen Soccer team, was named the GoStatesmen.com Male Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday, Oct. 29 after scoring the lone goal in Delta State's 2-1 overtime loss to Christian Brothers on Sunday, Oct. 28 at Delta Field. Â
The Statesmen (7-10-1, 4-8-0 GSC) took the lead when Daniel Deblaere scored in the 62nd minute. The play started with a throw-in by Jaxon Lambert from the right side of the field. Jack Pilley headed the ball on to Deblaere, who scored his fourth goal of the season from the left side of the box.
The Sydney, Australia native has already set a single-season record with eight assists, while netting four goals and 16 points off 30 shots. Â He will lead the Statesmen into the postseason for the first time in school history on Friday, as DSU squares off with West Florida in the Gulf South Conference Soccer Tournament.
