Laura Nichols has been named Lady Statesmen Athlete of the Week after two event victories and a strong weekend at the Little Rock Invitational.

Nichols picked up a big win in the 100-Breaststroke. Nichols swam 1.4 seconds faster than her season best time, touching the wall with a 1:05.01 for a victory of 2.7 seconds. Her time gave the junior from Columbia, S.C. a strong NCAA 'B' cut time and is the fifth fastest reported time in the nation this season.

Nichols also took first in the 200-Breaststroke, winning by nearly two seconds, touching the wall with a 2:26.92.

The Delta State Swimming and Diving programs and Nichols will return to action Dec. 14-16 in the Delta State Christmas Invitational held at the Delta State Aquatics Center.
