Devin Schmidt, a 6-foot-4 guard for the Statesmen basketball team, has been named the GoStatesmen.com/Cable One Male Student-Athlete of the Week after leading Delta State to a 2-0 week while averaging 32.0 points per game.Â
Schmidt turned in a historic 31-point performance to lead the Delta State University (14-11, 11-8 GSC) men's basketball team past the University of North Alabama (11-14, 8-11 GSC) 77-67 in Gulf South Conference play on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Walter Sillers Coliseum. For Schmidt, the 6-foot-4 guard joined the 1,000 points club with his effort against the Lions. The Seveirville, Tenn., native climbed to 13th on the career-scoring list with 1,017 points.
In a 77-67 victory over the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Schmidt turned in a season-high 33 points, six rebounds and five point to pace the Statesmen.
Schmidt is averaging 20.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game for the Statesmen this season.
