De'Koven Ware, a senior linebacker on the Statesmen football team, has been named the CableONE GoStatesmen.com Male Student-Athlete of the Week after his performance against No. 2 ranked West Georgia on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Parker Field-McCool Stadium.
Ware, who was also named the Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, turned-in a game-best effort in Saturday’s home setback versus No. 2 West Georgia, leading all players with eight solo tackles and eight total stops. The Dawson, Georgia native also registered four tackles for a loss of 17 yards with two sacks for 11 yards. Ware added one quarterback hurry and was responsible for the Statesmen’s lone score of the day when he scooped up a blocked punt midway through the fourth quarter, racing 10 yards for a TD.
Ware and the Statesmen will host the University of West Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Parker-McCool. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
