Melanie Tombers, a junior on the Lady Statesmen Swimming and Diving team, has been named the CableONE GoStatesmen.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week after leading Delta State to a dual meet sweep of Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist this past weekend in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Dusselforf, Germany, native took first place in three events. Tombers finished first in the 1000-Freestyle with a time of 10:31.01, the 500-Freestyle with a time of 5:09.32 and the 400-Individual Medley with a time of 4:28.30. Tombers' time of 4:28.30 in the 400-Individual Medley is the second best time in the nation for the event.
The Lady Statesmen defeated Henderson State 224.00-67.00 and Ouachita Baptist 231.00-51.00 and clinched first place overall at the meet.
