Devin Schmidt, a junior guard on the Delta State Men's Basketball team, captures his first CableONE GoStatesmen.com Male Athlete of the Week honor after leading the No. 11 Statesmen to a 1-1 record last week while averaging 25.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
The Seveirville, Tennessee, native scored 31 points and pulled down nine rebounds in DSU's 80-71 loss at No. 2 Tarleton State. Schmidt was 11-of-20 from the floor and 6-of-10 from 3-point range. He also dished-out five assists.
In Saturday's 122-59 thumping of Johnson (Tenn.) University, Schmidt scored 19 points and cleared five boards in just 23 minutes on the floor. His five made 3-pointers helped the Statesmen set a new school record for 3-pointers made in a game with 20.
Schmidt and the Statesmen return to action on Saturday, Nov. 28 versus Arkansas-Monticello at Walter Sillers Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
