Chelsey Rhodes, a senior guard on the Delta State Women's Basketball team, grabs her first CableONE GoStatesmen.com Female Athlete of the Week honor after leading the Lady Statesmen to a 55-53 season-opening victory at Miles College this past Saturday in Fairfield, Alabama.
The Monticello, Arkansas, native scored a game-high 17 points and handed-out two assists while playing all 40 minutes on the floor. Rhodes now has 1,213 career points after he 17-point outing and remains 27th on the DSU all-time scoring list. The senior is 19Â points shy of moving into a tie for 26th with Betsey Hubbs (1986-88 | 1,232).
She was 2-for-9 from 3-point range moving into a tie for third on the all-time 3-pointers made list with Amber Gean (2001-05).
Rhodes will lead the Lady Statesmen back into action this Friday, Nov. 27 against long-time rival Harding University. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at Walter Sillers Coliseum. DSU will also host No. 18 Arkansas Tech University on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m.
