Bailie Springfield, a freshman pitcher and infielder for the Delta State softball team, has been named CableOne Gostatesmen.com Female Athlete of the Week. 
 
In her first start in the circle, Springfield led the Lady Statesmen to their first win over a nationally ranked opponent this season on Friday, Feb. 10, when Delta State defeated No. 16 the University of Indianapolis 3-1 at the Montevallo Falcon Frenzy Tournament. The freshman right-handed pitcher from Mantee, Miss., pitched the entire seven innings, sacrificing only one run on one hit.
 
She earned her second career win in the circle on Feb. 12, against the University of Montevallo on the final day of the Falcon Frenzy. Springfield allowed only 5 hits and one run in Delta State’s 14-1 win over the Falcons.
 
At the plate, Springfield went 2-for-4 with an RBI against Tuskegee and 1-for-2 against Ursline College on Feb. 11.     
 
The Lady Statesmen concluded the Falcon Frenzy with a 4-1 record, improving to 6-5 on the season.
 
Delta State will open Gulf South Conference play this weekend at the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Ala., beginning with a doubleheader on noon at Saturday Feb. 18, followed by a single game on Sunday at Feb. 19.
