Colben Patin, a freshman outfielder for the Delta State softball team, has been named CableOne Gostatesmen.com Female Athlete of the Week for the first time this season.
Â
Patin drove in a career-high four runs in Delta State's 8-7 walk-off victory over Valdosta State on Monday, April 24. The Lady Statesmen faced a five-run deficit in the series finale, but Patin's three-run home run and RBI single allowed Delta State to pull within one run and overtake the Blazers in extra innings for the program's first three-game sweep over Valdosta State University in school history. For her efforts, she was named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week for the week ending April 24. Â Â
Â
Her three-run home run was the first of her career as a Lady Statesman. Patin finished the weekend with a team-best .556 batting average after going 5-for-9 at the plate with a team-high seven RBIs. She currently leads the team in slugging percentage (.577) and is third in batting average (.346). Â
The Lady Statesmen are scheduled to return to action on April 29-30, as they travel to Clinton, Miss., to face in-state rival, Mississippi College, for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 29, at 4 p.m. and concluding with a single game on Sunday, April 30, at 2 p.m.
