This week’s CableOne GoStatesmen.com Female Athlete of the Week accolades go to Delta State swimmer, Lucia Martelli.
 
In just her fourth meet as a Lady Statesmen, the freshman set a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly.  Martelli’s time of 55.20 beat the previous mark set by Anastasia Klyarovskaya in February 2014; it also ranks first in all of Division II at this point in the season. 
 
Martelli’s record-setting win came after her victory in the 200 butterfly and runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke against the Division I Yellow Jackets.  The Italian’s time of 2:06.19 in the 200 fly is currently the third fastest nationally.
