This week’s CableOne GoStatesmen.com Male Athlete of the Week is Emile Le Terrier of the Statesmen tennis team.
Le Terrier, a freshman from Paris, France, helped guide the Statesmen to a 2-0 record to open the 2018 season as the Statesmen defeated GSC rivals UAH and CBU on Feb. 9-10.
Le Terrier earned match wins at the No. 1 singles position against both UAH and CBU, defeating Dylan Hall of UAH 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 and CBU’s Atilio Flores 6-1, 6-2. Paired with fellow teammate, Hugo Stroppiana, he also helped lead the Statesmen to two doubles wins. The duo defeated Elliot Hopson/Dylan Hall (UAH) 9-7 and Atilio Flores/Andres Calzacorta (CBU) 8-3.
Le Terrier enters the season ranked No. 47 nationally in the Oracle/ITA Division II National Singles Rankings. He is the first Statesman since 2008 to earn a national ranking. Pascal LaPlace was the last Statesman to earn an ITA national ranking, finishing the 2008-09 season ranked No. 46 in DII.
Le Terrier has been a driving force at the net, finishing in the Round of 16 in the main draw at the 2017 Oracle/ITA Division II South Region Tournament in Valdosta, Ga. He and fellow teammate, Hugo Stroppiana, captured the men's consolation doubles title in the 2017 Oracle/ITA Division II South Region Tournament.
The Statesmen are scheduled to travel to Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., for a non-conference match scheduled on Feb. 17, at 11:00 a.m.
