Giulio Brugnoni, a freshman on the Statesmen Swimming & Diving team, was named the CableOne/GoStatesmen.com Male Student-Athlete of the Week after helping Delta State claim a 9th place finish at last week's NCAA Division II National Championships in Greensboro, N.C.

The Perugia, Italy native, claimed a national runner-up finish in the 100-Backstroke in a school-record time of 46.48 on the clock. He nearly pulled off DSU's second NCAA individual title in the 100-Backstroke. Justin Whitaker took home the title at the 2002 NCAA Championships. 

Brugnoni also earned All-American honors with a 6th place finish in the 100-Fly 47.41) and 200-Free Relay by swimming the lead leg in a 4th place result.
