Following his performance against Shorter on Thursday, Oct. 25 Delta State University quarterback Patrick Shegog has named CableOne/GoStatesmen.com Male Athlete of the Week and Freshman of the Week, on Monday.
Shegog led the Statesmen to their first victory of the season, as he finished 22-of-29 and tallied career-highs in passing yards (319) and passing touchdowns (three). His 319 passing yards are the most for a DSU quarterback since Tyler Sullivan threw for 382 at West Alabama on Oct. 8, 2016 (22 games). The three touchdown tosses are the most since Breck Ruddick matched the total at Shorter on Sept. 22, 2017 (16 games).
Since replacing Ruddick, due to injury, the Batesville, Miss., native is 134-of-234 with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions. His 277 rushing yards also rank second on the team.
Shegog is the first DSU player to earn a GSC weekly honor this season.
DSU is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Nov. 3 at West Georgia. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT.
