Delta State University student-athletes Bailey Daugherty and Sherrod Paige were named the Guaranty Bank Featured Student-Athletes of the Week after their performances this past weekend.
Daugherty, a freshman goalkeeper for the Lady Statesmen soccer team, posted a pair of clean sheets in two starts in goal for the Green and White.
The Arlington, Tenn. native, faced six shots and made three saves in a 1-0 win in Jackson, Tenn. against Union (Tenn.) University on Friday night to earn her first collegiate victory.
Then, in a scoreless draw against Christian Brothers on Sunday, she faced 12 shots and made a pair of saves as the Lady Statesmen completed the weekend securing four points and remaining in the top three of the Gulf South Conference standings.
The Lady Statesmen are back in action on Friday, Oct. 29 at 12:30 p.m against West Florida at Delta Field.
Delta State football player Sherrod Paige earned his second Guaranty Bank Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season after an impactful game in a win over West Alabama.
Paige registered four solo tackles, forced a fumble, and had a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown.
The Tampa, Fla., native intercepted a pass at the 33 yard line of West Alabama on the Tigers' opening drive of the second half and took it to the house to give the Statesmen a 28-17 lead with 14:28 remaining in the third quarter.
