Lady Statesmen cage Tigers on Senior Day, 2-0

CLEVELAND- Seniors Laura Swanson and Angela Davidson played their second to last home game of their careers in front of a packed crowd and help the Lady Statesmen earn their third GSC win with a 2-0 shutout over Ouachita Baptist Sunday afternoon at Delta Field. The Lady Statesmen imrpoved to 9-4-2 (3-1) on the year while the Tigers fall to 1-6 (0-6).

It was all Delta State in the first half as they racked up nine shots while holding the Tigers to none. However, after 45 minutes, the score was tied at 0-0. 

The Lady Statesmen, looking for their third win the GSC were determined to battle hard. Swanson came through at the 62 minute mark with a goal inside the six yard box following a nice pass from Erin Smith. 

Ashley Cechovsky sealed the win with a few minutes left to play. 

The Delta State defense was tremendous all afternoon, keep the Tigers caged with no shots of any kind allowed. 

Keeper Sarah Prevost earns her seventh shutout on the year. 

“These girls deserved to win today,” head coach Jim Allen said. “We needed a goal after the break and Laura came through with it. We had a lot more chances to put the ball in, but I'm happy with the win today.” 

The Lady Statesmen begin a three game road trip in Montevallo to take on the Falcons. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
