PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Delta State University Lady Statesmen were held to just one shot as they lost a hard battle West Florida 5-0 Sunday afternoon. Both schools were tied for the conference lead heading into the weekend; however the Lady Argos proved why they are the second ranked team in the country.
The loss is the second straight for the lady Statesmen as they fall to 9-6-2, 3-3 in conference action. West Florida improves to 14-0-1 and 5-0 in GSC play.
The Lady Statesmen were held to just one shot in the first half as they trailed 2-0 heading into the break. Dernelle Mascall and Noha Saleh scored seven minutes apart to give the Lady Argos the lead.
Keeper Sarah Prevost made six saves to her team in the game in the first half.
West Florida scored three more goals in the second half to put the game out of reach with goals by Kaley Morris, Jodi Galucci and Marcela Franco to keep their perfect conference record intact.
The Lady Statesmen were outshot 34-1 on the day with Prevost tallying nine saves in the game.
Delta State will remain on the road this Friday as they take on Alabama-Huntsville in a crucial GSC matchup. Kick-off is set for 12:30 p.m.
