HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- The Lady Statesmen remain in the running for their first ever Gulf South Cinference appearance following a 1-0 double overtime victory over Alabama-Huntsville Friday afternoon at Charger Field.
The win over UAH is the first ever for Delta State as they improve to 10-6-2 and 4-3 while the Lady Chargers fall to 5-8-1 and 2-4-2 in GSC action.
With over 100 minutes of soccer played in terrible conditions, the teams were in the second overtime before the Lady Statesmen would get the goal and steal a win. Ashley Chechovsky's initial shot was saved by keeper Rachel Marsicano who tipped it onto the crossbar. As the ball bounced back into play,
Lacy Mixon was there to clean up the mess and get the win in the 107th minute.
Sarah Prevost recorded her eighth shutout on the year racking up 11 saves in the win.
The Lady Statesmen are currently in the fourth spot in the league and still have one game remaining at home against North Alabama next week. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
