Lady Statesmen get a win in OT, 1-0 over Lady Bulldogs

JACKSON, Tenn. – For the second game in a row, the Lady Statesmen soccer team went to overtime to settle the score, this time getting the victory in the 95th minute against Union University Tuesday night. 

With the win, the Lady Statesmen snap a two game winless streak and improve to 4-2-1 while the Lady Bulldogs fall to 5-2 on the year. 

Following two scoreless halves, both teams had their chances in the game, Delta State racking up 12-5 in shots, eager to get a late win on the road. 

Union goalkeeper Laura Pla kept her team in the game with eight saves during the game, but she couldn't keep the shutout for long. 

Sophomore defender Jaz Yacaman scored five minutes into the first overtime to give the Lady Statesmen the win on her first goal of the season. 

Delta State keeper Sarah Prevost recorded three saves in the shutout win. 

The Lady Statesmen will return home this Saturday to take on Faulkner University at Delta Field. Kick-off is set for 10 a.m.
