LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Delta State Statesmen will aim to continue their winning ways on the gridiron when they travel to Livingston, Ala. on Saturday to face the West Alabama Tigers.
The Statesmen (3-2, 2-1 Gulf South Conference) are coming off a 31-23 win at home over Valdosta State last Thursday in the GSC-TV Live Game of the Week. Delta State currently holds the No. 17 ranking in the D2Football.com poll, and is ranked seventh in the South Region.
West Alabama (3-3, 1-2 GSC) enters the contest looking to snap a three-game losing streak after starting the season 3-0. The Tigers came up on the short end of a high-scoring 58-40 loss to Lambuth last week.
The Statesmen are led by senior linebacker Lardester Hicks-Green, who earned national and conference Player of the Week awards following his school record-setting 20-tackle performance against Valdosta. He was honored by D2Football.com Wednesday.
Hicks -Green has 61 tackles this season, which leads the GSC and is third overall in Division II. He is 26 tackles away from breaking the career Delta State record in that category. Hicks-Green is also a candidate for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which is awarded to the Division II Player of the Year.
The Statesmen are seeking their seventh consecutive win over the Tigers.
The game will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Network starting at 5 p.m. with the “SouthGroup Insurance Locker Room Report.” Matt Jones, Richard Webster, Jimmy Smith and J.T. Webb will have the call.
