Statesmen fall to Argos 4-5

PENSACOLA, Fla.- The Delta State University baseball team was looking to take the three game series with West Florida Sunday afternoon, but fell one run short, losing 4-5 to the Argos at Pelican Field. 

The Statesmen fall to 4-5 on the season, while West Florida improves to 7-3. 

After splitting two games Saturday, the Statesmen were down 1-0 in the first inning. Delta State took the lead in the top of the second, highlighted by a solo home run to centerfield from Kyle Bozeman (3). 

Delta State extended their lead by two in the third with RBI singles by Clay Sartain and Cade Hoggard

West Florida tied the game in the fifth, and broke away with runs in the seventh and eighth innings to earn the 5-4 win. 

Toby Easterly (0-2) earned the loss for the Statesmen, lasting 0.2 innings giving up one run and a walk. 

John Church (2-0) earned the win pitching five inning allowing just three hits. 

T.J. Hitt had the best day at the plate for the Statesmen, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. 

Delta State will hit the road again Feb. 18 in Hattiesburg to battle William Carey. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
