Games 34-36: Delta State at Henderson State Game Notes
CLEVELAND - The No. 24 ranked Delta State University baseball team, winners of 16 out of their last 18, will be taking the hit parade on the road this weekend, as the Statesmen (22-11, 8-1 GSCW) travel to No. 27 Henderson State University (25-10, 3-6) in Arkadelphia, Ark. The three-game Gulf South Conference clash is set for a noon doubleheader on Saturday and a 1 p.m. single game on Sunday at Reddie Field.
After taking the series (2-1) from Harding (19-18) over the weekend, the Statesmen claimed a run-rule shortened 16-6 win over William Carey (22-12) this past Wednesday at Ferriss Field.
Trey Griffin (3-0) pitched lights out for four innings, allowing just one run with six strikeouts. Junior third baseman
Josh Gordon provided the offense with a career-high four RBIs.
The Statesmen are currently tied for the lead in the GSC West Division with Southern Arkansas at 8-1, with both teams holding a one game edge on Arkansas Tech (7-2).
The Reddies, ranked for the first time in school history, are off to one of the best starts ever. Despite falling on hard times in their last three GSC series, HSU is still in the thick of the race with a 3-6 mark.
This weekend's series will mark the 51st meeting all-time between the Statesmen and Reddies. DSU has dominated the series over the years, leading 46-4 all-time. Under coach
Mike Kinnison, the Statesmen boast an all-time mark of 27-3, including a sweep last season at Ferriss Field.
All three games of the HSU series will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Network starting 15 minutes prior to first pitch with the "SouthGroup Insurance Dugout Report."
Matt Jones and Dan Hawthorne have the call.
