CLINTON, Miss. – Mississippi College's Samantha Greco successfully converted a penalty kick in the 87th minute to lift the Lady Choctaws to a 1-0 victory over Delta State on Tuesday at the Mississippi College campus.

The Choctaws' lone tally late in the contest overshadowed a brilliant performance by Delta State's freshman goalkeeper Sam Le Jeune (Olive Branch, Miss./Center Hill HS), who registered 11 saves during the match.

Delta State fell to 1-1 after the opening the season with a win at Alcorn State on Monday. Mississippi College improved to 1-0.

The Choctaws let fly a fusillade of shots during the second half, as Le Jeune made eight saves during the second half. Mississippi College outshot Delta State 20-7 in the game.

Megan Dixon (Pasadena, Texas/Memorial HS) came close to giving the Lady Statesmen the lead in the 75th minute, but her effort was stymied by Mississippi College goalie Elizabeth Beatty.

The Lady Statesmen return to action Sunday when they travel to Pensacola, Fla. to face St. Leo University in a neutral-site contest. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 10 a.m.
